Yesterday, we experienced the first solar eclipse to stretch coast-to-coast across the United States in 99 years. This rare natural phenomenon signifies new beginnings - a time of transition as one thing closes and one new thing begins. The whole day really got me thinking of how many times that "new beginnings" have opened for me. From college, to several jobs after college, and taking the step to start my own business, there's nothing better than a fresh start.
A friend recently asked me to help her edit and re-design her resume. With two college internships and 4 different jobs post-college, you can definitely say that I'm pretty savvy when it comes to the job search. There's a lot of pressure to get noticed in a competitive field, and it can be really daunting to send out tons of resumes and not get any call backs at all. If there's anything I've learned from my previous jobs, you have to find a way to stand out amongst the piles of resumes that a hiring manager receives each day, and if you really want something you have to pull out all of the stops. So with that in mind, I designed a resume for her that was modern and unique, and highlighted all of her important skills in a fresh way. I decided to share this to give those in the same boat some inspiration to step up their game.
So with that said, and as we all still revel in yesterday's phenomenon, take the time to reevaluate your personal resume. Does it stand out? Are you tailoring it to each individual job application? Does your cover letter speak to how you would be indispensable to the company? If the answer is no, don't fret - I can help. Let's chat and talk about some ways I can help you land your dream job.
